In a previous post, I mentioned that I'm bad at New Years Resolutions. True to form, I stopped doing my "song a day" thing, and instead focused on learning a LOT of new material. That's an ongoing process. I looked at my song catalog and realized that some of my favorite artists were more or less unrepresented; and that some things people ALWAYS want to hear are also, more or less, unrepresented. I made it a goal to learn an hour of each of those artists/genres. So far, I've got Tom Petty, The Beatles, The Eagles, Queen, and Power Ballads (Ok, that one's for me). I'm trying to learn an hour of country, but I just can't find that many songs that I don't hate.
I'm always writing music, so there's been some of that. I'm taking time to be neurotic in some of the parts, so its slow going. But I'll get some stuff released to you before long. Fear not!
My gig schedule is PACKED, which is a good thing. This past summer was crazy, but things are starting to wind down a little. When I started playing full time again, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't get stuck in any ruts: No weekly gigs at the same venue, No playing with the same people every day, etc. I've learned about myself that variety is the key to sanity. So I rarely play the same venue twice in a month, I rarely play with the same people twice in a row (full band shows not withstanding,) and I try to not play the same songs every night. In fairness, there's only so much I can do about that last one.
My October and November dates have been added to the site, but I always pick up new stuff, so follow my facebook page to see the LATEST dates.
Til next time!
